Music Monday’s

Tomorrow on May 14th,  PJ Morton drops his first major label album since being signed to YMCMB, “New Orleans.” It’s already available for pre-order on iTunes, which of course means I already pre-ordered. If you enjoy good singing, I suggest you take a listen.

A few weeks ago my cousin Gin and I had the pleasure of attending his album listening session in New York at the SESAC office. It was intimate and quaint with a very selective few, which made it feel really special. As the exclusive unreleased copy of “New Orleans” played in the background, the mood in the room brightened up. The sounds were a perfect fusion of old school meets new school, soul and pop. I’ve been a fan for years, so it’s exciting to see his career expand and grow, and also very inspiring. PJ Morton’s first single off of the album, “Only One” Ft. Stevie Wonder is already a new favorite of mine. His duet with Stevie Wonder’s harmonica section towards the end of the song always gets me.  I find myself randomly humming or singing that part. If you haven’t had a chance to hear it yet, check it out below.  I’m a sucker for a love story, so I enjoyed the video.

The listening session was the perfect atmosphere to make new friends, which brings me to mention my new friend Chris Caicos. Chris was this super friendly photographer who was kind enough to share some of the pictures that he took that night with us. Aside from being a photographer he’s also a chef! A picture taking food connoisseur, now that’s a double talent. Check out his Instagram to see the delectable sights of some of his dishes and his Website to see more of flicks. Take a look below at what the event was like behind the eyes of Chris Caicos…

Naked Ash Friday

I had the pleasure of joining Ashley of Naked Ash Nails today at the Adidas Originals Collide in NYC . Teyana Taylor and Adidas joined forces for United All Originals, and put together an awesome nail art inspired event. It was a fresh and interesting concept with a mixture of NYC’s best and up and coming nail techs giving all participants a cool design loaded manicure, and all for free! IMG_6550

The Scoop

I’m seriously out of my mind for staying away for so long :-( . I’m pretty emotional so I won’t go on about how terrible I feel for being MIA, but just know that I don’t feel great about it but, moving on…

Let me at least update you on what’s been going on. A lot of behind the scenes stuff has been happening. I’m so caught up in the moment that I haven’t taken the time to really document everything.

I’ve joined a new team #TeamPhoenix, doesn’t that name have a kind of comic book vibe to it? We’re not quite action figures but that’s all in perspective, you be the judge. Lisa Marie Phoenix of Phoenix Aficionado has brought be on board to help her out with her Digital Marketing company. We’ve been brainstorming and strategizing through the social media scene together. It’s been a very interesting journey, but I am really enjoying it, and Lisa is a brilliant God send. I’ve learned so much from her it has by far been the best professional relationship I’ve had in all my working experiences.

Ms. Aficionado and I

How time flies, this picture was taken this past fall. We had no idea what was in store, but this was the start of a great friendship.

I’ve joined a band! I’m singing background for The Get Down. We call the genre Funky, Rockin, Soul-Hop that name should help you to hear the sound even before you actually hear it. Getting on stage and rocking out with them has been an awesome experience so far. I’m learning a lot from each member of the band. They are all talented musicians and each of them uniquely different.

Meet the Band…

Dave, Mike, Romy, John, Pete and Dan :-)  188263_505243832851651_338844328_n

Dave Zerio is our drummer. He’s the quirky, sometimes awkward, but always sweet and ridiculously talented guy in the band. Michael Trella is the chill and super cool guitar player. You can’t expect anything less than super cool from a guitar player, it’s kind of a given. Up next is yours truly, moi, I’m the girl in the crew bringing in balance and estrogen and from time to time a little “sweet soul”. Johnny Task Burgos is the man of the hour, our lead singer, a soulful cat who’s voice and sound time traveled from the 70′s to entertain us now in 2013. Pete O’Neill is the base guitar player, he coincidentally is also our base, he makes sure we stay in communication and are on the same page. Did I just make him sound like the dad? Lastly is Dan Cherouny. Danny is the our saxophonist, he brings that jazz and really brings it. I’m a sucker for a horn section so this next statement is bias but he’s my favorite.

In a nutshell that’s the update, I didn’t want to keep my homies out of the loop so I had to share.

Talk to you again soon,

Romy

Naked Ash Fridays

Hey Lovies,

In the last post I hadn’t had a chance to meet up with Ashley, but we’re back again! This time, we did a version to “Naked Galaxy” just in a different color combination.

My base color was “Sunset Blvd”, and for my galaxy the base color was Essie’s ”Mezmerized” with all three colors incorporated into the design. Hints of white was added to give the starry effect. I really love how getting my nails done with Ashley is an artistic experience. Experimenting with all sorts of colors and designs makes you feel like you’re painting on a canvas. While she is the one that does all the real work, it’s a very customized service, truly unique.

Style Wednesday: Fancy Pants

Polyvore has become one of my favorite ways to create collages, it’s sort of  therapeutic too. It is time-consuming at times, but getting the outfits that I have in mind come to life through these collages makes it all worth it.

In the winter time pants are pretty much my uniform, but mainly out of fear of being cold. Nothing about being cold appeals to me in the least bit. You’ll rarely see me in a skirt or dress unless of course the occasion calls for it. Luckily the lively and festive “fancy pants trend” makes shopping for them this season a lot more interesting.

Naked Ash Fridays

I’m always sharing pictures of the designs Ashley does on my fat fingers, but I thought I would switch it up today and show you some of her designs on her own hands. I love all the creative stuff she does. When you’re looking for something more personalized Ashley has a way of making your nails exclusive and unique to your own style.

Check them out…

Tribal Burst is actually my fat fingers in display, I only snuck that one because that was one of my favorite designs she’s done for me. That design gave me life for an entire week in the summer. Not to go on a rant, but I really miss the summer days.

But enough about the weather. Are you using any unique designs on your nails? Share with me some of the designs you have on your nails, I’d definitely like to see them. If you’d like to see any of your ideas come to life email Ashley for an appointment at nakedashnails@gmail.com. Click here for her Instagram page where you can see some of her other designs.
